The Fair Lady Earrings from the Philippines, truly have an inspirational story behind them! These earrings are made of capiz, the thin shell of a marine mollusk. The artisans wash and soak shells, then after they are dried, they are cut into shapes, dyed and edged with metal wire. A finishing coat of varnish completes this labor-intensive process. Fun fact - Capiz was used for windows in houses in the Philippines before glass windows were available.
